Antique Perry Road Cart with Parasol Top C-P-ARC
SOLD
This lovely antique ladies cart is truly a rare find (I want it for myself!). The “Perry Road Cart” was made by the ABBOT BUGGY CO. in Chicago, IL and sold through Bryant Carriage Co, St. Louis, MO. in 1884. It has a natural wood finish (formerly painted green with yellow wheels), this cart has been carefully preserved; most of it is still original. It has a removable parasol top (in perfect condition), new Bedford cord upholstery and minimal brass appointments. The roomy, front-entry design makes it very easy to get into. It has curved shafts, black-leather dash and shaft covers. Metal is painted black with brass-shaft tips. Made in approximately 1884, this cart would be perfect for Civil War reenactments, pleasure showing or park driving. It was shown succesfully at the Santa Ynez Carriage Classic in California with a small Morgan horse; it is ideally suited for a horse from 14.1 to 15.1 hands.

Here is a quote ffrom the “Carriage Monthly” magazine printed in July 1884:
Abbot Buggy Co., State and 20th Streets, Chicago, ILL
“Wholesale Carriage Manufacturers, Proprietors and Builders of the
PERRY ROAD CART. The first and only two-wheeler made that positively has no horse motion whatever.
The first and only Cart made that gives the horse no cart motion and does not chafe it’s back.
A vehicle that rides as easy with two wheels as a buggy with four, and draws one-third easier.
The easiest riding vehicle ever made.”
This cart would be a treasure to own and it is ready to show in! How could a lady resist?! SOLD
